The variations of Eames’ chairs- it’s all in the legs!

Charles and Ray Eames made a range of chairs, the styles of which can be substituted with their other designs to create an entirely different model of chair. If you were to take the DSW seat, for example and mix it up with RAR legs, you will have created the RSR. The same can be applied to the DAW and the RAR legs, becomes a RAR rocking chair. Below I have created a break-down of the various chairs that are available from our online collection. I am convinced there is an #Eames for everyone.

Basic

  • DSW  seat+ DSW legs = DSW chair
  • DSW ghost seat + DSW legs = DSW Ghost
  • DAW seat + DAW legs = DAW chair

Variations on the basic design

  • DSW seat + rocker legs = RSR
  • DSW seat + Eiffel legs = DSR
  • DSW seat + rocker legs = RSR
  • DAW  seat + rocker legs = RAR
  • DAW seat + Eiffel legs = DAR
  • DAW seat + Rocker legs = RAR
  • DAW seat + wide straight legs = DAX

Patchwork

  • DAW Patchwork seat + wooden DAW legs = DAW Patchwork
  • DAW Patchwork seat + RAR legs = RAR Patchwork
  • DSW patchwork seat + RAR legs = RSR Patchwork

Metal

  •  DKR, metal grid seat (also available in ‘Bikini’)

Which chair legs would you choose?
